What Is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

The interlibrary loan department borrows items from other libraries across the nation. This gives our patrons access to books, movies, and many other items that Emporia Public Library does not own.

What Items Cannot Be Requested through Interlibrary Loan?

  • E-books

Does It Cost Anything to Use Interlibrary Loan?

No, there is no fee to use this service.

How Will I Be Notified That My Interlibrary Loan Is Available?

A patron will be contacted by phone or email. It is important to keep your library account up to date with your current phone, mailing address, and email address. If your phone or address is not correct, the interlibrary loan you ordered will be sent back immediately.

Where Can I Pick Up My Interlibrary Loan?

All interlibrary loans can be picked up at the circulation desk on the first floor. The items are held for a week after a patron is told that the item is ready to be picked up. If a patron fails to pick up the item by the hold date, the item will be sent back to the lending library.

How Long Can I Have This Item?

DVDs have a one-week checkout period. All other materials will check out for three weeks unless the lending library gives a shorter due date; if that is the case, the patron will be informed of this when they are notified that their item is available.

Is It Possible to Renew an Interlibrary Loan?

DVDs and microfilm are not renewed. All other materials may be renewed, but the renewal must be approved by the lending library. Please call a few days before your ILL is due so we can put in a renewal request to the lending library.

Where Do I Return My Interlibrary Loan?

We prefer that interlibrary loan materials be returned inside the library, but if that is not possible, please return it in one of the book drops in the east parking lot.

Are There Overdue Fines on Interlibrary Loan Items?

Yes. DVDs are $1 per day; all other materials are $0.10 per item per day.
