MATCH DAY

Match Day takes place on November 13, 2023! The Friends of the Emporia Public Library are raising funds for a new electric awning on the Library on the Go vehicle (partially funded by Match Day efforts of 2019).

Currently, you can find the Library on the Go van visiting farmers markets of Emporia and Allen, senior living facilities in Emporia, senior centers throughout Lyon County, and most recently, Emporia parks to provide access to library services and collections and to connect with our community members.

With the installation of an electric awning onto the roof of the Library on the Go van, the Emporia Public Library will be able to extend its presence throughout Emporia and Lyon County by visiting and setting up in areas that do not have buildings or cover for visitors, recreating the experience of visiting the library facility.

With this enhancement, the Emporia Public Library can bring a festive presence to local fairs and festivals, pop up in the parking lots of local businesses, and set up in apartment complexes for library program visits.

Donate online at emporiamatchday.com/nonprofits/fol or give via cash/check at the Emporia Community Foundation (527 Commercial St., 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.) or the Emporia Public Library (110 E. 6th Ave, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.).

The Friends of the Library (FOL) believe in the worth of an effective and attractive library. Its members pay a small membership fee and many serve in a volunteer capacity on the Friends Board, on committees and in various roles for the two annual FOL book sales. FOL advocate for literacy and education by providing funding for the library’s programs and materials.

The Friends raise money through used book sales, donations, and FOL membership dues. The library benefits in many ways because of the efforts of the Friends who give thousands of dollars to the library each year for programs. Some members volunteer to assist with library programs for area seniors, adults, teens, and children throughout the year.  The Friends are especially proud of supporting the library with funds for

  • summer reading programs for all ages,

  • Kids’ Koncerts Series,

  • library newsletter,

  • promotional items and refreshments for library programs,

  • BookPage magazine

  • multiple copies of books for book discussions,

  • staff development activities,

  • accu-cut dies for library bulletin board use,

  • book baskets for library use,

  • children’s room furniture,

  • annual donation to the Emporia Public Library Endowment,

  • and more!
